With the release of new operating systems, there is a lot of fun to be had finding the hidden settings. Often hidden away in the menu system they can be very useful, though you may not even know they even exist. Below is a list of some of the most useful of these hidden options.
Enable the System UI Tuner
Google may warn you that the System UI Tuner may “change, break, or disappear in future releases” this option is becoming essential to your phone for some of the options it gives you. To turn this on you just have to go into the Quick Settings and swipe down, and hold your finger on the gear icon on the upper right for a few seconds. Let go, then you’ll get a disclaimer message, agree to this and the Tuner will be enabled.
Battery Percentage on the Status Bar
While the little icon you normally see on the status bar for battery life can be useful, it doesn’t tell you how much of the batter is left. This is something gamers and those who make best of bingo sites would benefit from. To choose this, one way is to have the System UI Tuner enabled. Go into the Tuner, then simply toggle “Show embedded battery percentage”, and you’ll see the change in the status bar.
File Explorer
Android Marshmallow comes with a built-in explorer, but it doesn’t offer the bells and whistles of some of the third-party apps available. If you go into the Settings, then Storage & USB though, then scroll to the bottom you can tap explore to see what files are on your phone and storage device.
App Permissions
When we need to be sure what apps have access to our phone, it is important that this information is easy to find. While it may not have been in previous versions of Android, Marshmallow has provided the ability to revoke access to apps easily. Do this by selecting Settings, Apps, the name of the app, the Permissions. You’ll then be able to set the permissions for the app.
There are many new settings like this hidden away on Android 6.0 so why not have an explore? You may find ones that do things that you’ve always had issues with, but until you look for it, you won’t know it’s there waiting for you to use.
