Apple USB Ethernet Adapter Drivers for Windows 7 64 bit UPDATED x2
Apple USB Ethernet Adapter Drivers for Windows 7 64 bit UPDATED x2
Through a series of incredibly unbelievable events I ended up needing to use an Apple USB-Ethernet adapter on this fully loaded Alienware M17X laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. The rest of you will probably be approaching this from the much more believable but equally incredible event of installing Boot Camp on your new MacBook Air. Congratulations.
[UPDATE 1/9/2013]
The driver link below has been updated now that MobileMe is dead!
[UPDATE 9/14/2011]
The proper driver is now included in Boot Camp 4.0 from Apple. At the time of this writing the only way to get 4.0 is to download it from your Mac by running Boot Camp assistant and asking it to download Windows support files.
[/UPDATE]

Anyway, why these drivers are so hard to find is beyond me. Heres the link to them on my iDisk. When iDisk becomes iCloud I will have to update this link, remind me if necessary. Apple USB-Ethernet Win7 64-bit Drivers

Albert Quicklauncher PPA Packages Updated
Albert Quicklauncher PPA Packages Updated
`Albert`, a quick launcher for Linux, has received quite a few updates lately, fixing many of the bugs you may have encountered in the early versions, along with other changes.

Albert allows you to quickly run applications, open files or bookmarks (Chromium only), search the web, calculate and more. The application is inspired by Alfred (Mac), is written in C++ and based on the Qt framework, and its desktop environment agnostic so you can use it with any desktop environment.
Albert features:
- launch applications;
- open files;
- open Chromium bookmarks;
- calculate math expressions;
- search the web in your default web browser (it ships with various built-in search engines such as Google, YouTube, Amazon, Ebay, GitHub and Wolfram Alpha and you can easily add more);
- configurable hotkey and maximum number of items to display;
- ships with 5 themes by default.

Since our initial article about Albert, the application has received quite a few changes:
- implemented a plugin system and ported all the old modules to the new plugin system;
- new feature/plugin: System, which allows performing actions like poweroff, reboot, lock screen, etc. (you may need to set the commands for this to match your desktop environment);
- you can now ignore folders by adding them to an ".albertignore" file in your home directory;
- added actions (TAB switches to alternate action, if any);
- added support for Unity qucklists as actions (use the TAB key to access the quicklists);
- Files plugin: you can now filter indexed files by type, symlink support.
Besides these changes, there have also been numerous bug fixes. For instance, the hotkey used to launched Albert should now be correctly saved, even if you kill Albert (e.g. using "killall albert").
According to the Albert wiki, Albert works with Qt 5.1 and newer however, there are some known bugs that occur with Qt (5) versions older than 5.3 (which affects Ubuntu 14.04 / Linux Mint 17.x for instance) and since those bugs are in Qt, they cant be fixed in Albert.
I am not exactly sure exactly what bugs the wiki is referring to but from what I can tell, if you use a Qt version older than 5.3, you cant use the Super (Meta) key as a hotkey for Albert - other than that, I couldnt find any other issues but there might be others!
Install Albert
To install the latest Albert in Ubuntu, Linux Mint and derivatives by using the main WebUpd8 PPA, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install albert
For how to install Albert in Arch Linux, Fedora or from source, see its wiki.
If you encounter bugs, report them @ GitHub.
Tip: if youre looking for similar applications but youre not satisfied with Albert, you can try Kupfer (available in the official Ubuntu repositories; not updated in a long time but it still works great and it comes with an impressive number of plugins) and Synapse (available in the repositories for Ubuntu 15.10 and 16.04; for 14.04, you can use THIS PPA).

2009 MacBook Pro 8GB RAM and Hybrid HDD Upgrade UPDATED
2009 MacBook Pro 8GB RAM and Hybrid HDD Upgrade UPDATED
Just for the record, I updated my 2009 MBP 13" from 4GB of RAM to 8GB of RAM. From the factory it was speced to have a maximum of 4GB, but somewhere along the road Apple updated the BIOS/EFI to allow 8. Maybe it was around the release of Lion, but as long as you have it you are ready. It wasnt trouble free for me as I initially purchased two 4GB 1333MHz DD3 from Crucial thinking the Mac would underclock them to the specified 1066MHz. Nope. Multiple hard-as-a-rock crashes, not even a blue screen or grey screen or reboot, just stopped. Windows via Bootcamp would start and run for a bit at 1333MHz, but MacOS wouldnt even get close. Swapped them SODIMMs out for 1066MHz parts and everything was great. Ive had a two hard freezes since the upgrade, but not sure if it is x64 compatibility with some of my engineering hardware drivers or what.
I really wanted an SSD for the laptop, but I needed at least 500GB which was just too much money for now, so I found a Seagate Momentous 750GB Hybrid drive on Amazon. It is a 7200RPM laptop hard drive with an 8GB SSD buffer integrated, with 32MB of RAM buffer, too. I found it for just $20 more than a regular 750GB so I went for it. Turns out it was a good choice! Loading the operating systems and dev tools is very noticeably faster, and I was coming from a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM drive. Since then I read some reviews at Gizmodo and Anandtech and my feelings were confirmed by their benchmarks. Sometimes you get SSD performance and sometimes you are limited by the spinning platters but still get performance as good as a high end desktop disk. Im so happy I ordered another one for my 2007 iMac because Im tired of hearing the factory 3.5" drive churn and Im pretty sure itll breath new life in to the ol girl.
[UPDATE 1/9/2013]
Love the upgrade still, the initial freezes must have been unrelated. Everything is great working the old computer to death with Mountain Lion, Parallels 7, and Windows 7 x64. My wifes new Core i7 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD is making me look kinda dumb now though.

Microsoft Internet Explorer is the most annoying related to Java script. The page really miss alignment and the script not working as I wanted to or as you seen on Chrome.
Alhamdulillah. I managed to fix the script and tested it works on MS IE, Firefox and Chrome. Previously, Im using Chrome only to develop and test it. But some of my blog visitors complaint about the visibility. Thanks for the comment.
My blog should look like this.
